ST. PATRICKS PARADE, MARCH 16, 2024, 5:00 PM

The Plan of the Day is an official document of 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment - Rough Rider’s Inc. Its contents reflect current orders of the Commanding Officer and official Regimental announcements concerning this event. All members are responsible for reading and understanding the information contained herein.

PARADE SCHEDULE

  • 1:45 PM – Jeeps, TR, Little Tex, Coal Car, Trolley and depart Rough Rider compound. No riders allowed.
  • 2:00 PM – Staging at Morgan and Madison.
  • 4:00 PM – Safety and Security meeting for OICs, drivers, safety volunteers and other pertinent personnel.
  • 4:30 PM – National Anthem
  • 5:00 PM – Parade Begins

UNIFORMS

  • 2024 'Year Patch' must be affixed to your uniform shirt. Full uniform, including RR hats, is the dress of the day.
  • Members not working as Safety & Security Personnel are prohibited from wearing ball caps, and visors.
  • You can wear a green handkerchief, suspenders, or a green Stetson. NO BLACK STETSON HATS.
  • Kilts are not allowed to be worn during the parade or in staging.

STAGING

  • Do not arrive in staging before 2:00 PM.
  • We encourage carpooling from the clubhouse. We need help before and after the parade loading and unloading.
  • We are at Joe Chillura Square, N. Morgan St. and E. Madison ST
  • No cardboard bead boxes, or plastic bags allowed in staging or along the parade route. Get your beads ready before you arrive in staging.
  • Opaque cups only. No glass or cans.
  • We have hired a security company to provide 18 personnel for this parade. They will be wearing yellow shirts. Please treat them with the same respect as we give our volunteers. They are there for your safety. Do not offer them or any member of security alcohol.
  • 4:00 PM – Safety and Security meeting for OICs, drivers, police, medic, safety volunteers, float captains, fleet maintenance.
  • At 4:30 PM we will have the National Anthem at the floats. You are encouraged to join this ceremony
  • All members are requested to stay with our floats. Do not wait at the beginning of the parade route.

PARADE

  • No non-Rough Riders/guests/visitors are allowed on our floats once the parade begins unless specifically approved by the Club President.
  • If you can walk, WALK!
  • Members must stay with the Rough Riders floats for the entire parade.
  • No throwing of business or promotional items, glass, Styrofoam, confetti, balloons, or candy during the parade.
  • No firearms, silly string or water guns allowed at any time.
  • Please only use the beads that you bring. Theft will not be tolerated.
  • Do not solicit or encourage parade spectators to do anything inappropriate. No stamping, tattooing, or marking of spectators or participants.
  • Be mindful of Parade Marshalls and Safety & Security Personnel. They are there to ensure your safety.
  • Any incident or accident must be reported immediately to an OIC or Safety & Security Personnel.
  • PLEASE DO NOT ENGAGE THESE SAFETY PEOPLE IN ANY WAY DURING THE PARADE. If you have any issue with them, please report it immediately to the OICs Robin Conn, Ed Dunn or Safety Leads Dale Roderick or AJ Suarez.

POST PARADE

  • Remove any loose items prior to the float returning to the Clubhouse.
  • Once the parade ends and we will disembark in the disbanding area on E. Polk near N. Jefferson, no riders can stay on floats going back to the clubhouse. Rough Riders going to the afterparty at the clubhouse will need to go to the shuttle pickup point on 600 Block Polk Ave. Near the “Hub”.
  • We are having an after party at the clubhouse. Cost is free for Rough Riders and $25 for others. There will be a DJ and food trucks. The Bartley Hall Bar will be open for business. You may purchase drink tickets at the clubhouse when you arrive. Doors open at 7:00 PM.
  • Drive safely or make alternate arrangements to get home. You do not want to be in the backseat of a police car!!
  • Use Common Sense and Good Judgement throughout the day. Be safe and have fun!
